Food and Drink
From quick, tasty snacks to award winning cuisine, the Cross Keys caters for all tastes.
Like it’s sibling The Highland Drove at Great Salkeld, The Cross Keys was in a sorry state for years, a sad but familiar sight countrywide with what was once the heart of the community boarded up. With the expansion of Penrith it is now hard to believe that Carleton was a separate village and the Cross Keys stood at a crossroads that divided the country east and west, north and south. Now fully given the Kyloes kiss of life, The Cross Keys continues the centuries old tradition of hospitality serving fine wines, a selection of great real ales and some of the best food you will taste anywhere in the UK.
The Cross Keys is more than just a staging post, the revamped pub has quickly achieved “local” status with teams playing pool, darts and dominoes. In the winter the wood burning stoves provide that country pub in a town feel and, with the local currency of excellent banter, the Cross Keys helps underpin the Kyloes philosophy of come in a customer, walk out a friend.
